South Korean shipping lines, STX Pan Ocean and Hueng-A, are to launch a new joint service in the middle of July connecting north China, Thailand and Vietnam using three container vessels with a capacity of 850 TEU each. The maiden voyage of the fixed weekly China Thailand Service (CTS) will be made by the Cape Charles, which is scheduled to sail from Bangkok on July 14, 2005, a company statement announced. The port rotation of the CTS is: Qingdao(Sun), Shanghai(Tue), Hong Kong Fri), Bangkok(Wed), Laemchang(Thu), Ho Chi Minh(Sun), Hong Kong(Wed) and Qingdao(Sun). The statement explained that the CTS is designed to respond to the rapidly growing maritime transportation market between China and Thailand. CTS is the second joint service offered by the companies following the launch of the China Indonesia Service (CIS) in May 2005. STX Pan Ocean said it plans to expand its container business rapidly after announcing earlier this year that it was stepping up investments in its container division. Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that Heung-A is focussing its efforts on strengthening the company's liner business in the China market, reports SchedNet.
