Air Canada's three-times-a-week freighter service from Toronto to Shanghai, introduced only on May 15, will be increased to five times weekly on June 20, the airline said. The initial service had already proved successful in linking Canada with "the rapidly expanding Chinese market," the airline said Wednesday. Air Canada on the service deploys an MD-11 freighter that can carry 84 metric tons of cargo. The flights currently, and from June 20, are Toronto-Shanghai, but at a date not yet announced four of the flights (Monday-Thursday) will fly via Calgary, the chief business center of the western prairie provinces, providing much needed additional cargo capacity in the key Ontario to Alberta market as well as linking Alberta to the Chinese market.
