Latvian road transportation volume increase.

Last year Latvian road traffic made up 7 309 mln tkm, 8% up year-on-year, reported Valdis Trezinsh, President of the International Association of Car Transporters "Latvijas Auto". International transportation made up 68% , local transportation – 32%. Some 44.2 mln tonnes of cargo were transported. Last year 95.3 thousand of TIR carnet were given to international road hauliers, when in 2003 – 147.5 thousand. Valdis Trezinsh explained that after Latvia joined the EU, TIR carnet is used when transporting to/from third countries, so their amount does not show the exact transportation volumes.
